Borough considering parking meters

Turnover of parking spaces in downtown Frenchtown continues to be a significant challenge, particularly as warmer weather brings an increase in visitors. On weekends, many people park in municipal lots to access the D&R Canal Path, often leaving their vehicles for the entire day without visiting local businesses. This limits availability for customers who are looking to shop, dine, and support the downtown.

To address this issue, the borough is actively discussing the potential implementation of parking meters—an approach successfully used in many comparable river towns—to encourage greater turnover of parking spaces.
